Quick and brutal. Refreshing series finale.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SERIES FINALE

The Boys wrapped up this week. Series finale, ya' cunts. I liked how the story ended, but I can't wonder if this was how the story was supposed to end two seasons ago? If you recall, Season 3 episode 6, 'Herogasm', had Soldier Boy and Butcher fight Homelander. I feel like the super-power negating chest blast was supposed to happen here, and then the final two episodes of Season 3 would wrap up the stories of each of the characters, culminating with the inevitable showdown between Butcher and Hughie.

Was this supposed to be the original series finale?

Smoke on the street is, this was the original plan, but because the show was so popular the higher-ups at Amazon wanted to keep making more episodes. If you watch the seasons 4 and 5, you do start to get the feeling that there was a lot of filler episodes during those seasons. Fluff, if you will.

Never-the-less, I think the show wrapped up nicely. We got the two big showdowns (Butcher and Homelander, Butcher and Hughie). Plus, we got to see a sniveling Homelander after his powers were taken away.

BTW, Anthony Starr did a fantastic job in that final episode. Everybody (well almost everybody...it seems a small percentage of the population thought Homelander was the good guy throughout this series? WTF is that all about) was waiting for Homelander to do a complete 180 on his character and bravado, and I think Anthony Starr did it just right. Too much, and it could feel hammy. Not enough, and it won't be a satisfying moment for viewers. Starr played it perfectly down the middle. Yucked it up enough to satisfy the viewers desire for catharsis after watching this dude fucking bulldoze his way through his life, but still not over the top to the point of comedy.

Apparently there are some spin-offs in the works. I don't know about that. I mean...without Homelander and Butcher, feels like the air's been sucked out of the show, don't it?
