How I fucked up my JP Visa
• 1 min read
For starters, I forgot to renew my visa. Actually, technically, I remembered that I had to renew my visa...the day the renewal paperwork was due. There was no way I was going to submit the application in time (I was reminded of my impending visa expiration date by a kind lady who works at the tax office, as I was paying off the last of my tax payments, at 3pm...visa office closes at 4pm).
If you are ever in a situation like I was, DO NOT TRY TO FIX IT. Go to the immigration office immediately and tell them the situation.
I, like an idiot, thought to myself, oh no biggie. I will gather all my documents. Hell, I will even look for a job, because why not? The immigration office would rather have working immigrants rather than non-working ones, right? Better to find a job first and tell them the good news. "I forgot to renew, but don't worry, I am a hard-working member of you society! Just stamp the renewal papers, and let's move on!"
Yeah no, that was a big fucking mistake on my part. Holy fuck. I still could get kicked out of the country. The immigration office is reviewing my application. Wow, they were not happy.
I think technically, I am also a criminal now? They took my fingerprints. Took a mugshot.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
So yeah, don't be a big ol' dummy like me. If you miss your renewal cut-off, or you think you will miss it, go talk to the immigration office immediately.
Dork out.
